Events/TimelineIt's almost here....!!! Please let us know that you'll be there. TPS 160 - April 20th Agenda 9am -8pm: All day open house (with guided tours by student ambassadors during school hours) 1pm: Official Assembly including student performances and dignitary's greetings 2:30pm: Tree Planting in the playground 3-4:30pm: Meet & Greet Tea Party 5pm: cake and balloon release Here's what we've been doing: - On Saturday Sept 16th, TPS160 hosted a booth at the 30th annual Thornhill Village Festival. The booth displayed some photo albums we dug out of the basement and we all enjoyed browsing through them with all of our visitors who came by. We also had a video tape of the 1993 grand re-opening of the school (following the last renovations) showing and had some very positive comments from our new found alumni. We continue to collect names and contacts for alumni from ANY year at TPS and hope you help by telling others too. - School is off to a great start! The "Back to School" packages ordered by those parents of returning students were well received, and although it was not the money generating source we were hoping for, we know those students are prepared with the right tools for a successful year. - Pen Pal Program: as part of the ongoing efforts to promote strong literacy in the school, we are initiating a pen pal program for students in Primary (1-3), Junior (4-6) and Intermediate (7-8) grades. The time commitment is just for a minimum of TWO letters of correspondence during the fall/winter season. Then students of TPS past and present will be invited to an Afternoon Tea in the spring to meet & greet their pen pals! Please sign up NOW by sending us a message to tps160@yahoo.ca - On Oct 5th, Rogers TV Daytime Show with hostess Jacqueline Betterton will welcome the past principal of TPS Mr Alan Martindale (from 1947-1952) for a guest appearance. TPS160 will be reaching out to the community, encouraging past students & staff to identify themselves so that we can invite them to our celebration on April 19th, 2007. Spread the word - get involved! Other events still in the planning: - Design a photomosaic using submitted photos from anyone/everyone - Organize an Official Open House to display the works of the children (April 19) - Participate in Earth Angels Plant a Tree Program to commemorate this year (mid April) - Organize a joint school & community Quilting Bee effort to add to TPS's 2 existing quilts - Hosting an afternoon community picnic on the Gallanough Park Grounds (date to be determined) |
